At 11 years old, Carine Werner and her family landed on the tarmac to “America” by Neil Diamond playing over the loudspeakers. Three weeks later, Carine walked into a public school classroom and stood for the Pledge of Allegiance. At the time, she did not speak or understand the English language, but she still knew she was in the greatest country on earth! And Carine still knows that today. As small business owners, Carine and her husband have chosen to live, work, and raise their family in Scottsdale because of the excellent quality of life, strong community, and natural beauty.
As a mom of three children educated in the Scottsdale Unified School District, Carine has been on the frontlines of education for over a decade, and proudly serves as an elected member of the SUSD School Board. Carine is running to serve our community as an Arizona State Senator because our school boards are only one front in the battle for our children’s future, and we need fighters in the state legislature who will fight for their future too. Those of us who call this area home are truly fortunate because we’ve worked hard for the life we’ve built here. But we also aren’t immune to the problems happening in the world that are beginning to hit close to home.
We face a flailing economy with out-of-control prices, a broken border, rising crime, homelessness, and challenges within our education system. As a result of these issues, we worry that our children and grandchildren won’t have the chance to enjoy the same opportunities and lifestyle that we have. Carine’s proven common-sense leadership will address the problems we face, and help us protect the community we love, together.
My Priorities for Arizona
Education: Academics and Learning
- Increase teacher pay & reduce wasteful spending – Carine’s #1 priority is to invest in our future and our next generation. To truly invest in our children’s future, we need to know where our taxpayer dollars are going. That means reducing wasteful spending and allocating taxpayer dollars to the classroom in order to fund quality academics & teachers. In the State Senate, Carine will fight to increase pay for teachers and support staff that works hands-on with students everyday.
- Empower Parents – Parents are the experts in their children’s lives, education and health. They’re the ones who should drive children’s education inside and outside of the classroom. In the State Senate, Carine will ensure transparency in classrooms so parents are informed and involved in their child’s education.
Safe and Secure Communities
- Empower & Fund Law Enforcement – Carine will support law enforcement and fight to equip them with the tools they need to keep our communities safe amid rising crime rates.
- Secure the border: Stop the flow of crime and drugs into Arizona – We’ve all seen far too many Arizonans die of drug overdoses as a result of the crisis at our border. In the State Senate, Carine will work with local, state, federal, and law enforcement officials on solutions to secure our border, stop the rise in crime, and stop the flow of drugs coming into Arizona.
- Address homelessness with compassion & accountability – Our homelessness crisis creates needless suffering for thousands of Arizonans. We need to clean up our streets by providing opportunities for drug and mental health treatment. This starts with getting experts on the streets to identify a mental illness or drug addiction, and help the homeless seek treatment. In doing so, our homeless crisis will be resolved, improving the life of all Arizonans by cleaning up our communities.
Economic Growth and Opportunities
- Champion low-tax, business friendly environment – Carine will promote legislation to advance economic growth and opportunities for prosperity through low taxes and legislation that will benefit Arizonans and Arizona businesses, while standing firmly against legislation that attempts to increase the burden on families and businesses.
- Generate job growth – Carine will work to generate job growth by promoting legislation that fosters a business-friendly environment, incentivizing businesses to create job opportunities.
- Improve cost of living – Carine will drive solutions to improve cost of living so our children and grandchildren have the same opportunities to build a successful life in Arizona.
